The Leica Q3 Monochrom is expected to be officially unveiled on Thursday, November 20. However, LeicaRumors has already published high-resolution product images and the key details about the full-frame compact camera’s features and price ahead of time.
Unsurprisingly, the body is based on the regular Leica Q3, but the Monochrom version doesn’t have any color accents. The red Leica logo has been removed, the lens and shutter speed dial only have white lettering, and the "Leica Q3" engraving on the hot shoe is black instead of white. The leather covering is similar to the Leica M11 and gives the camera a more classic look.
According to LeicaRumors, the Leica Q3 Monochrom costs $7,790 in the United States. For comparison, the regular Leica Q3 with a color sensor costs $6,735. If the price also increases by 15.6% in Europe, the Leica Q3 Monochrom would cost €7,225 including VAT. In return for the higher price, buyers get the aforementioned design changes and a 60MP full-frame sensor without a color filter. While this means the camera can only take photos and videos only in black and white, it should also have a substantially higher light sensitivity.
The rest of the specs are reportedly unchanged. The Leica Q3 Monochrom is expected to feature an electronic viewfinder based on an OLED panel with 5.76 million pixels and 120Hz, as well as a foldable 3-inch touchscreen. The camera is equipped with a 28mm f/1.7 Leica Summilux lens with macro mode, 8K video support and is supposed to offer relatively fast autofocus thanks to the Leica Maestro IV processor.
