Kodak has unveiled a brand-new compact camera that houses 35mm film and a 25mm zone-focus lens, as well as a range of convenient features, all in a charming retro body. The Kodak Snapic A1 is likely to be positioned as a relatively inexpensive, analog compact camera.

Kodak has unveiled the Snapic A1 for the first time in a teaser video (embedded below), which was recently shared on Instagram. This is a brand-new compact camera that uses 35mm film instead of a digital sensor. Sporting a dark gray plastic body featuring a large Kodak logo, xenon flash and small optical viewfinder, the camera has a charming retro design.

The Snapic A1 is likely to be positioned as a relatively inexpensive compact camera, as Kodak has equipped it with a 25 mm lens with only three lenses that does not feature autofocus, but instead uses a simple zone focus system – users can only shift the focus from portrait distance to landscape distance. Due to the short focal length and the presumably relatively small aperture, the depth of field should be sufficient for capturing several people in focus.

A small LCD screen on the back displays the battery status, the number of remaining photos on the current film roll and the selected settings. The camera supports multiple exposures and can apparently has a continuous shooting mode. While it has a built-in flash, it lacks a hot shoe, meaning external or wireless flashes cannot be used.

The Kodak Snapic A1 is not manufactured by Eastman Kodak, but by Reto, a Hong Kong-based company that is also behind the Kodak Ektar H35. The new model is likely to be slightly more expensive than the Ektar H35 due to its additional features and the fact that photos are taken in 35mm format rather than half format.
