NBD’s new compact camera brings back one the arguably most interesting design elements from older Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras. To be more exact, the front panel can slide downward to power on the camera and reveal the lens underneath the cover. This protects the front element during transport, and the camera doesn’t need a traditional power button.
The camera is meant to offer modern features, but it falls short of older Sony Cyber-shot models in some respects. For example, the NBD P100 only provides digital zoom, while Sony offered 5x optical zoom in many models. In return, the NBD P100 features a higher resolution 64-megapixel sensor that can record 4K video at 30 frames per second, while the lens has an f/1.8 aperture.
The look of photos can be adjusted with 18 filters, and the camera supports sports, portrait and night modes. An additional selfie camera is located next to the small display on the back. The built-in battery can be conveniently charged with a USB-C cable, and the P100 can also be used as a webcam via this cable. Photos and videos are stored on a microSD card.
Price and availability
The NBD P100 compact camera is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The early-bird offer costs around $90 plus shipping, import fees and taxes. First deliveries are expected to arrive in January. As with any Kickstarter campaign, there is a risk that the product may be delivered late or with lower quality.
