The Sony A7 V is now official. Positioned as a true all-rounder, the full-frame camera introduces many crucial enhancements over the previous model, including a new 33 MP sensor, drastically improved autofocus, 4K/120 fps video support, and two USB-C ports.

The successor to the Sony A7 IV (approx. US$2,198 on Amazon) has arrived. It promises significantly improved performance, though at a higher price of around US$2,900. The camera’s design remains largely unchanged from the previous model, retaining the OLED electronic viewfinder with 3.68 million dots from the A7 IV. However, the viewfinder’s refresh rate has been increased to 120 Hz thanks to the new processor.

The flip-out touchscreen on the back now offers a greater range of motion. Despite relying on the familiar NP-FZ100 battery, the Sony A7 V can capture up to 630 photos on a single charge when using the electronic viewfinder – up from the 520 shots offered by its predecessor. This improvement is driven in part by the Bionz XR2 processor with integrated AI processing. Coupled with the new, partially stacked 33 MP full-frame sensor, it is said to deliver considerable performance gains.

According to official specifications, the Sony A7 V can capture up to 30 shots per second in 14-bit RAW with autofocus tracking enabled. It also has a Pre-Capture feature that starts recording one second before the shutter is pressed. The electronic shutter is likely much more practical thanks to a 4.5-times higher readout speed. Sony says the camera offers 16 stops of dynamic range and more accurate AI-powered automatic white balance.

The Sony A7 V can record videos at 4K/60 fps in full-frame mode, whilst cropping the sensor to APS-C size enables 4K/120 fps capture. The camera’s upgraded image stabilisation reportedly allows photographers to shoot with exposure times 7.5 stops longer without a tripod. The A7 V also offers vastly better connectivity than its predecessor, with the addition of a second USB-C port and support for the faster Wi-Fi 6E.

Price and availability

Priced at US$2,899 / £2,799 / €2,999, the Sony A7 V body is now available in Europe and will be released in North America by late December 2025. Sony has also announced the new FE 28-70 mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II zoom lens, scheduled to launch in February 2026. The lens will retail for US$449 / £429 / €479.
