The Sony A7 IV (from $2,198 on Amazon) is one of the most affordable cameras in Sony's full-frame lineup. This model is now expected to receive a successor, as SonyAlphaRumors has published two photos that allegedly show the upcoming Sony A7 V. According to these pictures, the camera will receive at least one improvement that is directly adopted from the Sony A9 II.
Namely, it sports a new hinge that allows the display to fold out more flexibly. It doesn’t have to be folded out to the side and then rotated, as this hinge also makes it possible to tilt the screen directly downwards or upwards. The controls and body shape are expected to be carried over directly from the Sony A7 IV, so the wider, slightly more comfortable grip remains exclusive to the more expensive Sony cameras.
A second image shows that the camera continues to use a 33-megapixel full-frame sensor. However, it is currently unclear if Sony will use the same sensor as in the previous model. It could also be a new sensor with the same resolution but other improvements, such as a greater dynamic range or less image noise at high light sensitivity.
Even if it’s the same sensor as in the Sony A7 IV, a new image processor could result in better image quality and offer new video features. The Sony A7 V is expected to have two SD card slots so that photographers can directly back up all images in order to avoid losing data in the event of a defective memory card. Sony’ new camera is expected to be officially unveiled in October or November.
