The Esquisse Camera aims to combine a minimalist design made from premium materials, similar to the Sigma BF, with a retro aesthetic, a comfortable button layout featuring three control dials, and an electronic viewfinder. With dimensions of 4.13 × 2.76 × 1.38 inches, the camera is significantly smaller than even the Sigma BF (from $2,199 on Amazon) or the Panasonic Lumix S9, even though those competitors lack an EVF.
Weighing 350 grams, the camera is exceptionally light, yet the battery is expected to provide enough power for over 300 photos. Photos can be stored directly on 256GB of internal storage. The design is somewhat reminiscent of a Leica CL, as the aluminum plates on the top and bottom and the black leather covering are a clear nod to classic rangefinder cameras. The two control dials on the top control the sensor's light sensitivity (ISO) and exposure compensation. A third programmable dial is visible on the back, next to two Fn buttons and a play button.
The camera has a 3-inch touchscreen and an electronic viewfinder with an OLED panel with 3.69 million dots. The 20-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor is designed to capture a dynamic range of 13 stops. Hundreds of lenses are available for the Four Thirds mount, and adapters make the camera compatible with other lenses, including Leica M-mount lenses.
Price and availability
The Esquisse Camera is just a concept for now. The company is actively developing a prototype, and according to the current schedule, deliveries are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The manufacturer is targeting a price of under $2,000. Since development is not yet complete, the launch date and price might change.
