This $35 pocket film camera combines a 25mm lens with a sliding shutter lock

Shooting 35mm film continues to grow in popularity, but the learning curves and price tags of vintage SLRs can be intimidating for newcomers. To solve this Reto has introduced the Kodak EC35, a $35 pocketable point-and-shoot camera designed to provide the functional experience of a disposable camera inside a reusable body.

The EC35 features a sliding cover that protects the lens and also mechanically locks the shutter, so you can carry the device in a backpack or jacket pocket without fear of accidentally firing off a shot and wasting film.

The camera is completely fixed with a 25mm lens, f/10 aperture, and a shutter speed of 1/100 second, so there are no complicated exposure settings to learn and use. And then there’s a built-in flash that runs on a single AA battery for when you want to shoot in low light or indoors.

Buyers can choose from seven color options, including Midnight Black, Vanilla White, Butter Yellow, Lavender, Powder Blue, Blush Pink, and Avocado. Complete beginners also have the option to pick up a $45 bundle that includes a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 film to get started immediately.

The company also recently launched another $35 camera called the Kodak Charmera. Unlike the analog EC35, the Charmera is a tiny, keychain-sized digital camera measuring just 58 x 24.5 x 20 mm. It packs a 1.6MP CMOS sensor paired with a 35mm f/2.4 lens, saving 1440 x 1080 JPEG photos to an external microSD card. Power comes from an integrated 200mAh battery recharged via USB-C.
