Even in 2026, the Kodak Portra 400 35mm film remains exceptionally popular amongst photographers, particularly prized for its signature subtle colouration and gentle contrast. A new filter is now bringing this aesthetic to digital cameras.

The new PolarPro Portra Filter can be screwed onto a camera lens much like a standard UV or polarising filter. It is designed to transform the look of photos, drawing inspiration from the Kodak Portra 400 35mm film (around $65 for a two-pack on Amazon).

According to PolarPro, the filter lends a warm colour profile with natural, “creamy” skin tones, whilst rendering highlights warmer and softer. High-contrast edges also take on a more analogue feel. A polariser layer enhances colour depth. Based on sample photos, the Portra Filter produces noticeably lower contrast and saturation.

Compared with a software filter, such as those in Lightroom or Capture One, the PolarPro Portra Filter promises a more consistent look straight from a camera, reducing time spent on photo editing. It combines the effects of a highlight diffusion filter, a polarising filter, and a colour tone to alter how colours are rendered.

Price and availability

The PolarPro Portra Filter is available now on the official online store. It is offered in a range of sizes – including 49mm, 67mm, 77mm, 82mm, 86mm and 95mm – and is priced between $89.99 and $249.99 before taxes and shipping.
