The Kodak Luma 500 is a new portable projector. It can play movies and TV shows without an external media player and supports large projections of up to 150 inches.

The Kodak Luma 500 is a new projector manufactured by licensee C+A Global. It's a compact projector that should be particularly well-suited for use on the go. It’s also advertised for outdoor use, but a typical problem with compact projectors could come into play here. Specifically, the Kodak Luma 500 has a low brightness of just 150 ANSI lumens, while some other portable projectors found on Amazon get significantly brighter.

According to the manufacturer, the Kodak Luma 500 offers a projection size of up to 150 inches at a distance of 12.5 ft and a projection ratio of 1.2:1. It’s questionable how feasible this best-case scenario is in real world usage, as the low brightness could be the limiting factor here.

Kodak's FHD projector itself measures 5 x 5 x 1.3 inches and weighs around 1.2 lbs. It runs on the Google TV 11 operating system, which means that a dedicated media player is not needed for streaming content from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus. Furthermore, the Luma 500 supports WiFi and doesn’t require a power outlet since it features an integrated 10,500mAh battery. That said, external devices can be connected via HDMI, in which case there’s a 30ms input lag at a refresh rate of 60Hz.

The Kodak Luma 500 is now available on Amazon for $699.
