Leica has expanded its Cine line of home cinema projectors with a new model dubbed the Cine Play 1 Plus. The new projector builds on the Cine Play 1 from last year and promises better picture quality while coming in at a more affordable price point.
The biggest upgrades come in the areas of brightness and color accuracy. The Cine Play 1 Plus now reaches 3,500 CVIA lumens and covers 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut. By comparison, the previous Cine Play 1 offered 3,000 lumens and 100% BT.2020 coverage, making the newer model brighter and better suited for well-lit rooms. Movies and TV shows should also look more vibrant on the Cine Play 1 Plus.
Other features remain largely the same. The Cine Play 1 Plus can project 4K images up to 300 inches with a throw ratio of between 0.9 and 1.5. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and DTS Virtual:X audio. Moreover, it uses a triple RGB laser light source, which is said to last for 25,000 hours, and comes equipped with an MT9655 chip, Leica’s Summicron zoom lens, and stereo 10W speakers. A built-in tilting stand also allows for flexible placement options.
Elsewhere, the projector is said to feature a redesigned visual interface, likely a newer version of the VIDAA operating system, which offers access to popular streaming apps like Netflix. It also supports HDMI 2.1 and includes USB ports and an Ethernet jack. Leica has priced the Cine Play 1 Plus at CNY 11,888 (~$1,700) in China, or CNY 13,887 (~$1,950) with the optional stand set. It’s surprisingly more affordable than the Cine Play 1, which is currently available for around $3,795 in the US.
