Bethesda Game Studios has announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has surpassed 4 million players just five days after launch. The remastered version was released on April 21, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), and Xbox Game Pass - and it quickly became a massive hit.
Bethesda took to social media to thank fans. The post said, “We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil.”
The release, which followed weeks of speculation, was shadowdropped with no prior announcement or major marketing campaign. Despite this, the game was quick to gain traction and topped charts on platforms like Twitch and became a top-played title across digital storefronts. At the time of writing, Oblivion Remastered is tops Steam's 'Trending Games' chart with 104,710 concurrent players.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered goes beyond a standard visual upgrade. Built with overhauled graphics, updated UI, improved lighting, and re-recorded audio assets, it’s almost a remake. According to the official patch notes, the remaster includes native 4K support, updated animations, performance optimisations for current-gen consoles, and support for 60+ FPS gameplay. Further, there were bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, such as better inventory management and accessibility enhancements.
The Elder Scrolls is an iconic and successful franchise, and it clearly still enjoys a huge fan base. With Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has reignited interest in its classic 2006 RPG, bringing it to a modern audience while preserving its original depth and charm.
