Ahead of The Game Awards, excitement has been building for Star Wars followers. Kurakasis, who has a solid reputation for predictions, already revealed a new title with “The Old Republic” in its name. With many readers assuming it relates to a KOTOR remake, there is apparently another Star Wars project in development. On social media, fans learned about a racing game based on the George Lucas franchise.
Kurakasis teased the announcement by claiming that the game’s title will conclude with “racer.” When players think of recent Star Wars games like Outlaws or Jedi Survivor, racing may not come to mind. However, launched in 1999, Star Wars Episode I: Racer was a successful LucasArts release.
Episode I: Racer features the podracing action from The Phantom Menace film. Enjoying solid reviews, many critics found it more entertaining than the movie. According to its supporters, the title successfully captured the breakneck speeds and danger of the events. At the same time, the controls were responsive enough to reward skilled competitors.
Multiple inspirations for a Star Wars racing game
With over 3 million sales, a studio could decide to revisit the first Star Wars racing game. Still, after debuting on the N64, Game Boy Color, and Windows, an HD version already surfaced in 2020. Episode I: Racer was followed by Star Wars Racer Revenge in 2002, which was a PS2 exclusive. Gamers may also remember Super Bombad Racing from 2001 as a kart racing affair with combat.
Other Star Wars games, including Knights of the Old Republic and Outlaws, offer racing activities. If developers take the swoop racing angle, a KOTOR remake may be a natural tie-in. The previous Kurakasis post convinced some gamers that The Game Awards will provide an update on the project.
Players haven’t heard much about the title since its 2021 unveiling. Fortunately, in March 2025, Saber Interactive confirmed its entire portfolio was safe. If that’s not enough to look forward to, Game File just reported that a remake for KOTOR 2 may also be in the works.
