After the original announcement at The Game Awards 2021, Star Wars Eclipse has been fairly quite in terms of updates on the development. After several unfortunate reports about the game and the team behind it, there seems to be some movement as a few prototype images of in-game characters have been leaked. These are said to be from the portfolio of an artist who briefly worked on the game.
The leaked images were spotted by MP1st and they show several characters, three of which are well known races from the Star Wars universe: Gungan, Zenezian, and Rodian. Gungan is the race of Jar Jar Binks, a controversial character introduced in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The publication points out that two of the characters are named “Travis” and “Jotraaaz Kammzzzek” indicating that they may have more significant roles in the game.
The Star Wars action-adventure is being developed by Quantic Dream, the studio known for games like Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls. In August 2022, the studio was acquired by NetEase and then last year, the lead writer for the game left the studio. Then in February this year, it was reported that NetEase is planning some major restructuring that would affect Quantic Dream, among its other studios, and hurt the development of the game.
Star Wars Eclipse does not have a release date yet but it will be a few more years till it actually comes out. It is possible that the studio shares an update sometime this year or next year since technically the game has already been in development for over three years.
