Audio-Technica Japan has announced the ATH-AWSW DV wooden headphones adorned with the image of Darth Vader in celebration of Star Wars.
The wood earcups are covered in polished Echizen lacquer, then adorned with the images of Darth Vader using traditional maki-e lacquer decoration techniques. Only 10 copies of the hand-crafted headphones will be available for an MSRP of 990,000 yen (~$6,700) from the company's booth at the Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 event starting April 18.
The ATH-AWSW DV headphones are reasonably priced in comparison to A-T's top wooden headphones, the ATH-AWKG priced at $4,200. The Lucasfilm-approved headphones use 53 mm drivers with specially tuned acoustics. They are Hi-Res Audio-compatible with a frequency range of 5 Hz to 45,000 Hz. The headphones can handle up to 2,000 mW of power at 48 ohms with a sensitivity of 102 dB/mW.
The 415 g (14.64 oz.) headphones come in a specially designed wood storage case. A Star Wars edition aluminum headphone stand displays the headphones when not in use. Two cables are included: a 3.0 m (9.84 ft.) cable with a 6.3 mm (1/4 in.) gold-plated stereo standard plug and a 1.2 m (3.94 ft.) cable with a 3.5 mm (1/8 in.) gold-plated stereo mini plug.
Readers who weren't lucky enough to buy tickets to the sold-out Star Wars event in Japan will have to settle for another pair of Audio-Technica's wooden headphones (like these on Amazon) while watching the video below.
