Audio-Technica has collaborated with Japanese apparel brand Wind and Sea to launch the limited-edition Sound Burger x Wind and Sea portable record player (AT-SB727 WS).
Wind and Sea was founded in 2018 by stylist and photographer Takashi Kumagai. The brand pays homage to the San Diego surf culture and street style of the 1990s. The limited-edition Sound Burger is styled after 1980s audio equipment in black and silver for a retro-look.
The original Sound Burger was released in 1982 and the latest generation has been upgraded with a 12-hour rechargeable battery, a USB-C charging port, and Bluetooth speaker connectivity. The player uses the A-T ATN3600LC needle cartridge. The belt-drive system handles 33 and 45 rpm records.
The Sound Burger x Wind and Sea portable record player has an MSRP of 39,600 yen (~$270). The player will go on sale May 12 at the A-T website as well as the A-T store on Amazon.
The limited-run T-shirt and carry bag will go on sale for an MSRP of 8,250 yen (~$55) and 15,400 yen (~$105) respectively from 12:00 pm May 12 noon to 11:59 pm May 18 in Japan at the A-T accessories website. These collectables are made-to-order and will ship in July.
