Audio-Technica’s ATH-ADX7000 open-back headphones are designed for audiophiles chasing uncompromising sound. Handmade in Japan with new HXDT drivers, they promise controlled bass, detailed mids, and airy highs across a spacious soundstage.

Audio-Technica has unveiled the ATH-ADX7000, the company’s newest audiophile-grade open-back headphones, which promise to deliver “the most natural, spacious, and comfortable listening experience” for an eye-watering $3,499.

The ATH-ADX7000 features the company’s new HXDT driver technology, housing 58mm integrated drivers handmade in the company’s Machida, Tokyo facility. As Audio-Technica explains, that’s only one part of the story. These diaphragms are then ultra-precisely aligned with other driver components such as the baffle plate, magnet, and voice coil to deliver a cleaner, more natural, full-spectrum audio reproduction.

The driver units are encased in an aluminum housing with a honeycomb-punched design, which Audio-Technica says improves the airflow to the diaphragm and helps deliver more accurate and detailed sonic performance.

Premium open-back headphones often leave a bit to be desired when it comes to bass reproduction, but the ATH-ADX7000 promises to deliver powerful low-end that’s full and has excellent control and weight. The company claims you’ll get a surprisingly full, tightly controlled bass response for an open design, with mids revealing subtle details in instruments clearly and naturally. The highs and upper mids, meanwhile, are tuned for openness and air without sounding too harsh or fatiguing, giving vocals a touch of intimacy and maintaining a realistic sense of space across the soundstage.

The ATH-ADX7000 headphones come with two interchangeable earpads: high-density velvet earpads that are designed to suppress unwanted resonances and deliver a balanced sound, and the Alcantara earpads that are more durable and bring out deeper bass and mellow treble.

Each pair comes with a compact hard carrying case, and Audio-Technica is also throwing in two detachable 3-meter, nylon-wrapped cables in the box—one balanced cable with a 4-pin XLRM connector and another unbalanced one with a 6.3mm gold-plated stereo plug — both using Audio-Technica’s A2DC connectors.

The Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000 will go on sale in the US and UK starting October 31st for $3,499 and £3,000, respectively.
