Although the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 only debuted in September, B&W has already introduced the first special edition of the headphones. The McLaren Edition mainly differs from the standard Px8 S2 in its colour scheme, combining Anthracite Grey and Papaya Orange as a tribute to McLaren founder Bruce McLaren’s first racing car.
Both the headband and carrying case are adorned with a McLaren logo. Since the headphones’ technical specs remain the same, B&W is charging a premium solely for the design changes. Having previously reviewed the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2, we found that it delivers exceptional sound quality and top-notch workmanship. However, its noise cancelling is solid but not class-leading, and it offers only a limited set of smart features.
Bowers & Wilkins has equipped the Px8 S2 with 40 mm carbon-fibre drivers and an advanced wireless module that supports both Qualcomm aptX Lossless and Bluetooth Multipoint. When connected to a source device via USB-C, the headphones are capable of delivering 24-bit lossless audio for high-fidelity playback. A five-band equaliser is also included, allowing users to fine-tune the sound to their preferences. Weighing 310 g (10.93 oz), the Px8 S2 offers up to 30 hours of battery life.
Price and availability
Priced at $899, the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 McLaren Edition is now available from the official B&W online shop, with shipping expected to begin on 21 November. By comparison, the standard edition retails for $100 less and can be purchased through retailers such as Amazon.
