Fostex has unveiled the T50RPmk4CL and T60RPmk2CL closed-back planar headphones for mastering and enjoying music.
Both planar headphones leverage the company’s latest fourth generation RP Series Driver, a patent-pending design that utilizes a higher density coil pattern and magnetic structure for increased push-pull force on the diaphragm. The T50RPmk4CL is similar to the T50RPmk4 semi-open-back headphones, except with a closed-back design that weighs 330 g (11.6 oz.). The T60RPmk2CL uses black walnut wood for the ear cup housing, with a closed-back design that weighs 360 g (12.7 oz.).
The RP driver has a frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz with a sensitivity of 97 dB/mW. The headphones have an impedance of 28 ohms with a maximum input power of 3,000 mW. The thick ear pads use an angled design that is supposed to help enhance sound staging. Optional Toray Ultrasuede ear pads that provide breathability and a soft touch are available.
The headphones come with a 2 m (6.6 ft.) 3.5 mm-to-3.5 mm (1/8-inch-to-1/8-inch) cable and a 3.5 mm-to-6.3 mm (1/8-inch-to-1/4-inch) adapter. The oxygen-free copper (OFC) cable can be connected to either side of the T50RPmk4CL for convenience, while the T60RPmk2CL uses a cable that splits into a Y-cable and is connected to both sides.
Both planar headphones are scheduled for release in July. Pricing has not been announced, but will likely start around $250 for the lower-end model.
