Audeze has unveiled the LCD-S20 closed-back planar headphones for studio tracking and recording use.
The LCD-S20 uses a 90 mm diaphragm made using the company's renowned planar magnetic technology. The gel-filled earpads and closed-back design help maintain a solid seal, eliminating sound interference during use in live recordings. Symmetric linear acoustic modulator (SLAM) technology is used to help the headphones reproduce powerful deep bass without compromising the quality.
The drivers are apparently capable of reproducing high-resolution audio from 10 Hz to 40 kHz, with a very low total harmonic distortion (THD) below 0.1% @ 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz. The headphones have a sensitivity of 93 dB/1 mW at 18 ohms, with a maximum power handling capability of 5 W RMS.
The headphones measure 9.5 x 10 x 5 in. (3.74 x 3.94 x 1.97 cm) and weigh 1.21 lbs. (550 g). They come with an 8.2 ft. (2.5 m) headphone cable along with a 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm adaptor.
Readers can buy the LCD-S20 for an MSRP of $499.00. The headphones are available for purchase on the Audeze website and soon on the Audeze store on Amazon with an expected shipping date of late May. Music enthusiasts who enjoy listening to beautiful sound with a wide soundstage can pick up a pair of open-back Audeze LCD-X headphones to pair with their audiophile-level tube amps.
