Beyerdynamic has unveiled the DT 990 PRO X open-back, over-ear headphones for studio production. They have an MSRP of $199.99 and are available from Amazon.
The DT 990 PRO X utilizes the company’s latest STELLAR.45 driver, utilizing a newly developed voice coil with a symmetrically suspended design that enables a wide range of diaphragm motion with low distortion. The voice coil utilizes copper-clad aluminium wiring, which has a diameter of 60 µm, to achieve a low weight of 80 mg (0.0028 oz.).
The STELLAR.45 drivers enable the headphones to be used for high-resolution music productions due to a wide frequency response of 5 Hz to 40,000 Hz with a natural treble boost to allow critical details to be heard, according to the company.
They are designed for all-day use with soft velour ear cushions and an open-ear design which allows heat and moisture to dissipate more easily than closed-ear headphones. The padded headband has a cutout at the top underside to allow the headphones to rest on heads comfortably. The headband produces a clamping pressure of 3.5 to 5.5 N (0.8 to 1.2 lbf).
The headphones weigh 10.3 oz. (292 g). They have an impedance of 48 ohms and come with a 3.0 m (9.8 ft.) mini XLR-to-3.5 mm (1/8-in.) cable that is detachable. A 6.35 mm (1/4-in.) adapter and drawstring bag are also included.
