A Star Wars Zero Company PS5 disc has leaked, prompting early impressions. The turn-based strategy title lets gamers choose between quality and performance modes on the console. Although the 60 fps setting is generally smooth, frame rate drops hinted at in previews are noticeable.

Another advantage of physical games is that they sometimes arrive prematurely. Ahead of the August 27th Star Wars Zero Company release date, Redditor AigledeFeu_ already received his pre-ordered copy. The PS5 disc is playable, allowing the fan to share performance details about the turn-based tactical experience.

Amazon delivered the PS5 game but neglected to include the pre-order bonuses. Regardless, AigledeFeu_ was excited to learn it boots and uploaded the startup screen and early-game footage.

Surprising demanding?

Putting a new galactic spin on the XCOM franchise, Star Wars Zero Company has suffered from other leaks. As reported by the Bespin Bulletin, Xbox reviewers mistakenly posted gameplay clips. The videos exposed performance concerns such as pop-in and flickering shadows.

On capable PCs, hands-on previews described frame rates dropping well below 60 fps on some planets. While AigledeFeu_ hasn’t provided a detailed analysis, the player did supply brief impressions on the base PS5.

Higher frame rates with compromises

PlayStation console owners should expect quality and performance modes. The latter setting renders visuals at 60 fps. According to the Reddit leak, the game mostly maintains that target except during transitions to cutscenes. However, there is a “noticeable downgrade” in quality, particularly with lighting and shadows.

The title is also PS5 Pro enhanced, although neither developer Bit Reactor nor PlayStation has confirmed the benefits. With the Star Wars Zero Company release date imminent, that information may soon emerge. Review embargo timing is uncertain, but followers could see scores shortly before its Xbox, PlayStation, and PC launch.

In a busy period for Star Wars games, Galactic Racer will join the EA-published title in October. Zero Company hopes to define itself through dynamic relationships within squads. Performance issues aside, previews suggest that the gameplay is approachable even for players unfamiliar with the XCOM series.
