Disney has reportedly mandated third-party studios prepare Switch 2 versions of all titles based on Disney properties. The leak comes to us courtesy of Nash Weedle on X, who also alleges that Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order are already on their way to the Switch 2.
This also means that games like Marvel Rivals and even fan-favorites like the entire Kingdom Hearts series could release natively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Many AAA games skipped the original Switch
Despite being one of the best-selling consoles of all time, the original Nintendo Switch doesn’t have many AAA blockbuster games compared to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One consoles. The reason for this is quite simple: The Nintendo Switch is woefully underpowered. This is evident in the image quality and the performance of the AAA titles that did make their way to the Switch (available on Amazon).
Thankfully, the Nintendo Switch 2 is quite a bit more powerful than the original Switch. For instance, even in the low-power handheld mode, the Switch 2 reportedly packs 1,133.33% more raw compute vs the original Switch (1.7 TFLOPs vs 0.15 TFLOPs). This raw compute performance jumps to more than 3 TFLOPs in the docked mode.
Combined with DLSS, the Switch 2’s hardware is powerful enough to run modern AAA titles at smooth frame rates. This is precisely why we have seen an influx of modern AAA titles like Star Wars Outlaws on the Switch 2. Upcoming projects like 007 First Light and Resident Evil Requiem are set to land on the Switch 2 at the same time as the Xbox Series and the PS5 (available on Amazon).
So, Disney mandating studios to develop Switch 2 versions of its gaming properties is not surprising. Still, take Nash Weedle’s report with a grain of salt, especially concerning the release of the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, as we’ve yet to hear anything official.
