Warhammer: Dark Omen, a cult RTS from the 1990s, has been improved more than 27 years after its release, with smoother graphics and compatibility issues resolved. But beware, because the gameplay is unchanged and still dates from that era.

Many games released in the 1990s left a lasting impression on gamers, such as Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong Country, and Doom. But on another note, a game was a huge success when it was released in 1998, and that was Warhammer: Dark Omen. And there's some good news to report, because an enhanced version is now available on GOG.

After several months on GOG's Dreamlist, this cult RTS from the 1990s is back in a modern version. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it has undergone a complete graphical overhaul, with 4K compatibility and smoother graphics. Its stability has also been improved, as compatibility issues have been resolved and there are no more bugs on current versions of Windows

Several players have already had the opportunity to play it, as evidenced by the reviews on GOG, and they praise the work that was done in this improved version. However, the game's gameplay is typical of its era and still seems very rudimentary.

As a reminder, in Warhammer: Dark Omen, which is available for $8.99 on GOG, you play as Commander Morgan Bernhardt, leader of the Grudgebringer mercenary army. You must eradicate the forces of evil that are invading your world, and to do so, you can command regiments of wizards, cavalry, archers, as well as monsters and war machines.

Use the fully 3D terrain to move your troops and implement various strategies, such as hiding. The campaign evolves based on your decisions, allowing you to change the outcome of each game and add variety. Finally, don't forget that anything you can do, the enemy can do too.
