Jump Space, formerly known as Jump Ship, is a co-op sci-fi shooter that managed to rack up a whopping 500,000 players during its free Next Fest demo event, will launch into early access for as little as $19.99 and feature a wealth of content, with plenty of update content planned for further down the line.

Jump Space was announced earlier this year as a surprisingly polished looking game launch from newbie indie studio Keepsake Games, a brand-new studio formed by veterans who worked on games like Mirror's Edge, It Takes Two, and Wolfenstein: The New Order. The new sci-fi game blends traditional shooter gameplay and mission-based progression and mechanics, and space dogfights not unlike those in The Expanse, and it will launch at a whopping $19.99 when it enters early access on Steam on September 19.

Jump Space is a space-based sci-fi shooter in which players fight enemies both in FPS ground combat or in fast-paced dog fights in spaceships. Players can play in up to four-player co-op or alone. The general gameplay is mission-based, and each mission will have you fighting against NPC warships and the hostile environment of space and the alien worlds down below. There appears to be plenty of exploration, and the FPS combat involves both boarding missions and ground-based combat. Throughout all of the chaos of sci-fi warfare, you will also need to maintain and upgrade and repair your ship when it gets damaged during missions.

The graphics lie somewhere between futuristic sci-fi and realism, and the Star Wars inspiration is clear in some of the ship designs teased in the YouTube trailer.

Jump Space content roadmap and price revealed

The $20 pricing was revealed in a recent Steam news post, with the developer also confirming the current state of the game and giving us an idea of what will come further down the line. According to the update, Jump Space will launch with:

  • 9 mission types
  • 50+ playable sectors — aka levels
  • 4 unlockable galaxy regions
  • 2 playable ships
  • 26 ship components for upgrades,
  • 8 weapons
  • 16 ship enemies
  • 11 ground enemies.

During the game's early demo in June this year, Jump Space managed to attract as many as 500,000 players, and the players who reviewed the demo earned it a 93% positive rating on Steam. So it's safe to say that Jump Space is stacking up to be an exciting experience, even with the current level of polish and gameplay.

In addition to the low launch price and the wealth of content, Keepsake Games has also announced three planned content updates, or chapters, for Jump Space — each featuring a small dose of extra content. Chapter 2, coming between launch and Q1 2026, will add an endless mode, text chat, new weapons, offline gameplay support, a new ship, more story missions, a bunch of quality-of-life and balance updates, new enemies and mission types, and a slide mechanic for better mobility.

Chapter 3: Secrets of the Telmari expands the game yet again with more new weapons, additional enemies, a new ground boss, more story expansions, voice chat, yet another new ship, more playable areas, and a first-person pilot view. It should be noted that this content will not launch all as one big update. Instead, it will be released over the course of a few updates during the update cycle. Chapter 3 is slated to begin launching after Q1 2026.

Jump Space also only requires an Nvidia GTX 1070 as a minimum spec, which means it will probably be able to run on devices like the Lenovo Legion Go S (curr. $649.99 on Amazon).
