With Dreams of Another, Q-Games presents one of the most unconventional shooters in recent years. Instead of eliminating enemies, players use their weapons to construct structures and objects – a twist German gaming magazine GameStar has dubbed the "world’s first anti-shooter."
Rather than fast-paced action or traditional progression, Dreams of Another takes players on a surreal journey through a world of point clouds, where even conversations with doors or manholes are possible. GameStar describes it as “an experience like no other.” Players explore abstract, floating landscapes where the weapon is not for destruction but for creation. Each shot adds something new to the world – a bridge, a staircase or drifting particles that reshape the environment.
A demo of Dreams of Another has been available on Steam since September 2. GameStar took an early look and praised its fresh concept, distinctive point-cloud visuals and thought-provoking gameplay. On the downside, they noted the repetitive shooting, underwhelming sound design and highly abstract style, which may not appeal to everyone. The demo will remain available until September 16.
The full release of Dreams of Another is scheduled for October 10. So far, player interest has been modest, with SteamDB recording a peak of just 13 concurrent players during the demo. There are still no reviews on Steam or Metacritic, and it remains unclear whether the game will be compatible with the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $455).
