The Outlast Trials is a spin-off of the critically acclaimed Outlast franchise, with a heavy focus on Multiplayer Co-op and PvE. The game is currently at its lowest recorded price of $11.99, 70% off on Steam for a limited time.

The Outlast Trials is a spin-off of the critically acclaimed Outlast franchise from Red Barrels. Instead of the single spook-fest like the franchise's main entries, Outlast Trials takes a more multiplayer-focused approach.

It pits up to four players against deadly therapy "trials" for the shady Murkoff Corporation in 1959 Arizona. The gameplay revolves around completing objectives, solving puzzles, or evading and hiding from enemies.

The story is told primarily through documents and scripted events in each of the trials, which act more like macabre games designed to break and rebuild your sanity. Stealth and evasion are your primary tools to escape alive.

Gameplay

The Outlast Trials will test your team with deadly traps and environmental puzzles, which mostly involve finding keys to progress. Each member in your party comes equipped with unique "rigs" that provide special abilities depending on the character you choose.

You can create and customize your characters with various tools, upgrades, and perks. Some of these tools allow you to stun enemies, blind them, let your team members see through walls, and heal yourself or others.

Trials also have something known as "variators," essentially random mutators that affect the difficulty. For example, you may encounter more enemies than usual, or your night vision batteries may drain faster than normal.

Seasons and Rewards

The Outlast Trials has received four seasons so far, with the latest released on July 15th, 2025. There are also timed events that let you earn special cosmetics and skins, with the latest being Deep Burn, released September 9th, 2025.

The game also has a reward system called "Catalogs," a bit like battle passes that allow you to unlock additional cosmetic rewards for your character. "A New You" is the default that is available to all players and is free.

The rest of them can be bought with real money or by accumulating enough "Murkoff Coins" by grinding trials. Each of the "Regular Catalogs" costs 1000 Murkoff Coins. They aren't time-gated, and once bought, they will be available to you forever.

"Event Catalogs" are free for all players but available only for a limited time, and are on rotation once a year.

Steam Discount

The Outlast Trials is currently 70% off, available for $11.99, its lowest recorded price according to SteamDB.

Alternatively, you can also check out the Reagent Starter Pack Edition for $14.99, which bundles extra cosmetics.

There is also The Outlast Franchise Bundle for $46.35, which includes Outlast, The Whistleblower DLC, Outlast 2, the Reagent Starter Pack, and The Outlast Trials in one package.
