For a few days, Ice Universe has been on a warpath against Samsung’s current head of mobile photography on X. The leaker, who is no stranger to criticising Samsung, has been comparing images from Galaxy S25 Ultra and other competing flagships to showcase how far ahead the competition is vs Samsung.
In fact, Ice Universe has taken the fight against Samsung’s purported negligence so seriously that the leaker has written an open letter to the Samsung CEO on X, urging him to sack the current head of the camera department.
Ice Universe’s open letter seems to represent a growing sentiment in the fanbase. Looking at the replies to Ice Universe’s post on X, many users feel that Samsung is no longer at the forefront of mobile photography. Years of no serious camera upgrades have now, arguably, put the company behind Chinese competitors like Vivo and Xiaomi.
Moreover, with the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro and its new 48 MP “Fusion” camera system, Samsung is at risk of being left in the dust by Apple. The Galaxy S26 series is rumored to skip considerable camera upgrades once again, which could make the Galaxy S26 phones the least desirable camera phones next year.
This concern is at the root of Ice Universe’s appeal to Samsung CEO TM ROH. The leaker has detailed nine reasons why Samsung has fallen behind in the camera department. Some of the major ones include:
- Samsung’s refusal to innovate and its reliance on outdated camera tech
- Failure to listen to user feedback
- “Blindly copying Apple” in both hardware design and processing
- Slow software updates and omitting old phones from receiving camera patches
Based on these reasons, Ice Universe has not only decided to keep posting the open letter every day on X, but is also moving a petition. Titled “Urgent Replacement of Samsung Camera Division Head”, the petition has gained over 3,000 verified signatures at the time of writing.
While we can’t say how much change Ice Universe’s petition will bring, we can say that Samsung does need to step up its game. The flagship Galaxy S phones, which were once some of the best camera phones in the industry, now don’t even rank in the top ten according to DXOMark.
In the end, only time will tell how much better or worse the Galaxy S26 cameras turn out to be compared to the likes of the iPhone 17 Pro, the Vivo X300 Pro, and so on.
