A new MOBA with 4 versus 4 team battles, based on the popular Dragon Ball franchise, has launched on Steam to "Mostly Positive" reviews.
Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra features popular characters from across the franchise, including fan favorites Goku, Gohan, Cell, Caulifla, Android 17, Android 18, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Majin Buu, Krillin, and many more.
The characters are divided into three roles: Damage, Tank, and Technical. Damage characters are super aggressive and easy to play. Tanks have a large pool of health, and Technical characters are versatile and come with support abilities.
If you have played a MOBA before, this will seem familiar, as will Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra's free-to-play moniker. So far, the game's microtransactions seem to be the norm. There are cosmetic skins that include tokens, emotes, attack animations, finishers, and burst animations.
The game uses four types of currencies, all of which can be earned using Battle Passes or Premium Battle Passes. G-Capsule, Zeni, Stamps, Frames, SG-Capsules, and Helper characters are free-to-grind.
Heroes can be bought with real money, Dragon Gems, or by leveling up Star Collections and receiving an Unlock Hero token. There are also Loot Boxes, which can be opened with G-Capsules. The game already has a player count of more than 13,000 concurrent players on Steam. The game is also available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
Gameplay
The game has three modes of play on launch. Standard Battles is a skirmish mode where players fight it out to eliminate four randomly spawning bosses on the map to gain a Dragon Ball. Before the start of each round, two special rules will be randomly chosen using a "Divine Draw." Players can also use "Divine Combo Cards" during battle to gain perks.
Land Grab tasks players to hold three plots of land on a map to gain points. The first team to reach 500 points wins. Finders Keepers is the last mode, which splits teams between offense and defense. The attacking team will hunt for treasure chests on the map, while the defense attempts to hold them back.
Steam User Reviews
Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra already has more than 400 reviews on Steam, with 70% leaning towards positive, for an overall "Mostly Positive" rating. Players are praising the game's attention to detail and graphics, with most of them agreeing that the gameplay feels really solid.
The negative reviews highlight the game's technical shortcomings, such as frequent server disconnects, crashes, login problems, and some common problems across MOBA's such as bots and AFK teammates ruining the fun. Some reviews allege that hackers and cheaters are already in the game.
