Fans of monster-collecting games have a new reason to get excited, as a popular title in the genre climbs the Steam charts. Miscrits: World of Creatures has just made its debut, earning glowing reviews and securing a top spot under “Trending Free” – clearly striking a chord with players.

Originally a hit on Facebook and mobile between 2011 and 2016, Miscrits: World of Creatures has made a comeback – this time on Steam, launching on May 25, 2025, for Windows, macOS and Linux. Completely free to play, the game takes players to the fantasy realm of Miscritia, now under threat from a dark force. To save the world, you’ll hunt down rare creatures known as Miscrits, train them in battle and take on fierce enemies, from ruthless trainers to towering bosses.

The gameplay draws clear inspiration from classic monster-collecting titles but adds its own twist to stand out from genre giants like Pokémon. Instead of one-on-one or duo battles, Miscrits features turn-based combat with up to four creatures on the field at once. Its elemental system is streamlined, focusing on just four core types – fire, water, air and nature – making it easy to pick up, though less deep than Pokémon's 18-type setup. Where Miscrits shines is in its strong online component, offering daily PvP battles and a simple progression system that’s especially welcoming to casual players.

Reviews: Strong debut, but PvP balancing needs work

Miscrits: World of Creatures has been met with a warm welcome from the Steam community. Just days after release, the game has gathered over 100 reviews – 97% of them positive. It has also claimed the top spot in Steam’s “Trending Free” section, marking a strong start for the revived monster-collecting title.

Beyond its well-executed overhaul, the game’s fair free-to-play model is earning praise – all content is accessible without spending money and in-game purchases are entirely optional. However, the PvP system has faced some criticism for being unbalanced, especially when powerful relics and veteran players create a steep challenge, made worse by daily tasks that require wins. Minor launch issues have also been reported, including login problems and the inability to carry over achievements from the beta.
