The Leading Version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite has just debuted as Qualcomm's new (if iteratively upgraded) flagship SoC for smartphones.
The first device to be powered by such silicon is the RedMagic 10S Pro, which augments the platform with a RedCore R3 display co-processor and an ICE-X cooling system that integrates an actual spinning fan.
It is found in line with the rear cameras, which are found in a housing completely flush with the rest of its cyberpunk-inspired back panel: an unusual feature, even in a flagship Android smartphone.
The 10S Pro is also somewhat ahead of the curve with its 144Hz punch hole-free AMOLED display and 7,050mAh battery; then again, those are also features of its pre-existing 10 Pro predecessor.
It will be interesting to see if the global version of the 10S Pro will have the same series-first "PC games emulator" as its Chinese counterpart.
In the meantime, RedMagic is running a contest to win one of its upcoming flagships ahead of its June 5, 2025 debut.
