Anbernic is racing ahead with another gaming handheld, having launched the RG34XX SP and the RG557 less than a month apart from each other. Contrary to recent rumours, Anbernic is not embarking on a new form factor for its next release. Instead, it is returning to the RG35XX series after a period of absence, which it last updated with an RG35XX SP refresh in September (curr. $78.98 on Amazon).
This time, the company has decided to create the RG35XX Pro, which we suspect will form its June product release and the last before the summer. As is customary, Anbernic has revealed its new handheld's emulation capabilities first and foremost, which appear to top out at fifth-generation home consoles and seventh-generation handhelds like the PlayStation Portable. In other words, we suspect Anbernic has re-used an Allwinner H700 chipset once again. Although unconfirmed for now, we suspect that it has paired this chipset with 2 GB of RAM like on the RG34XX SP to distinguish the RG35XX Pro from other RG35XX series models.
Ultimately, the RG35XX Pro is the spitting image of the BatleXP G350 that arrived earlier this year by virtue of its layout and twin joystick set-up. As a result, the RG35XX SP is a spiritual successor of sorts to the RG353V, albeit with a more powerful chipset. While Anbernic has not confirmed pricing, availabiliy of full specifications yet, we imagine the company will do so either later this week or at the start of June.
