The Zero 40 has been a long time coming. Predating the Mini Zero 28, the Zero 40 was first unveiled late last year as an option for Nintendo DS and Tate arcade emulation. Incidentally, MagicX has since refreshed the Mini Zero 28 with a V2 variant that is said to improve upon its Anbernic RG28XX (curr. $49.99 on Amazon) alternative in several areas.
After a few months of silence, MagicX then showcased the Zero 40 in a lengthy hands-on video. To recap, the company used the video to emphasise the handheld's TATE emulation capabilities thanks to its 4-inch and 5:3 aspect ratio display. On top of that, it listed the device on its website where it also provided full hardware specifications.
In a Discord post, the company has now clarified that the Zero 40 will be available starting June 17. A global release, the device will only come in black and white finishes at launch, despite MagicX previously showing a translucent option too. Apparently, more colour options will eventually follow, although the company has stressed that this will occur after an unspecified 'period of time'.
As it stands, the Zero 40 is anticipated to arrive for $75 with an Allwinner A133P chipset paired with 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 4,300 mAh battery. Rated for between 5-7 hours of usage between charges, the device also offers Bluetooth 4.2 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, stereo speakers and up to 512 GB microSD card expansion within a 136 x 105 x 17 mm body that weighs 182 g. Please see MagicX's website for more details.
