A few months have passed since MagicX teased the Zero 40 as a potential candidate for Nintendo DS emulation. Incidentally, it subsequently hinted that it had three other gaming handhelds in the pipeline, including a dual-screen option. Then out of the blue, the company opened pre-orders for the Mini Zero 28 V2 with a few improvements over the original model it released in January.
Now, it has shared more details about the Zero 40 through a near-20-minute YouTube video and an early product listing. Embedded below, the video runs through 30 classic vertical arcade games including 1942. Thus the Zero 40 looks suitable for TATE mode, albeit without having to rotate the device itself like many retro gaming handhelds.
MagicX has also confirmed that the vertical display outputs at 480 x 800 pixels while measuring 4-inches diagonally. Meanwhile, the Zero 40 itself measures 136 x 105 x 17 mm and weighs 182 g. The device contains a 4,300 mAh battery that MagicX rates for up to 7 hours of battery life too, as well as 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and an Allwinner A133P chipset found inside rivals like the TrimUI Brick (curr. $79.99 on Amazon).
Moreover, the Zero 40 will launch running Android aided by Bluetooth 4.2 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi support. Based on the technical specification sheet embedded below, MagicX plans to offer the Zero 40 in Black, White and Blue Transparent finishes too; only the White variant is currently pictured on its website. The Zero 40 should be available 'soon' for approximately $75. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen exactly when at this stage, though.
