Ayaneo has shed new light on the Flip 1S, which appears set to become the company's next Windows gaming handheld release. For context, the company has been focusing on its Android gaming handheld division lately with devices like the Pocket Ace, Pocket Micro Classic and Pocket S2. Amid these, it released the Ayaneo 3 with the same optional AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 that can be found in rival gaming handhelds like the OneXFly F1 Pro (curr. $1,439.95 on Amazon).
Then just last week, it teased that the Flip 1S was in the pipeline as a redesigned and refined version of the model that we reviewed last year. Initially, it was unclear whether Ayaneo planned to replace both the Flip DS and Flip KB or just one model. Now, the company has hinted that only the former is on the cards by virtue of not mentioning a new KB model in its latest round of teasers.
Instead, Ayaneo has suggested that is working on the Flip 1S DS, with 'DS' denoting 'dual screen'. While details remain scarce for now, the company reports that the device will launch with a 'CNC full metal A-side', compared to the all-plastic affair that the Flip DS and Flip KB featured. Given the wording of the teasers embedded below, it seems that the Flip 1S DS will be a more premium offering than its predecessors. As a result, we would not be surprised if the Flip 1S DS also retailed for more than the Flip series, which started at $699 on Indiegogo at the start of last year.
