Ayaneo has finally released its next-generation gaming handheld. Available to order now in multiple variants, the Ayaneo 3 can be configured with a 120 Hz OLED display, up to 64 GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU. The new gaming handheld also supports both USB4 and OCuLink eGPU solutions unlike many of its contemporaries.

The Ayaneo 3 is here after months of teasers in a variety of launch SKUs. In summary, Ayaneo's latest release is one of an increasing number of gaming handheld to use AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with Zen 5 CPU cores and an RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 890M iGPU.

The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is not the only APU with which the Ayaneo 3 is available, though. In fact, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 SKUs run to $600 more than their Ryzen 7 8840U counterparts. It is also worth bearing in mind that Ayaneo sells 7-inch LCD and OLED display options at no additional cost. These display contain the following key features:

LCD

  • 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 500 nits, 315 PPI, 100% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, 60 Hz and 120 Hz refresh rate modes, 7 ms response times, VRR, native horizontal panel

OLED

  • 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 800 nits, 315 PPI, 150% sRGB/110% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz and 144 Hz refresh rate modes

For some reason, Ayaneo has not confirmed the response times of its OLED panel, nor whether it supports VRR and is a native horizontal panel. All Ayaneo 3 units share certain hardware though, regardless of which APU, display and memory configuration is chosen. For example, all units contain LPDDR5X-7500 MT/s RAM, M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 storage and a 49 Wh battery.

The Ayaneo 3 contains OCuLink and USB4 ports too, as well as swappable controller modules for adding touchpads or an eight-way d-pad and six action buttons termed the 'fighting module'. Meanwhile, all versions come with Hall effect joysticks and triggers, plus a pair of rear buttons, all within a 289.8 x 115 x 22.4 mm housing.

Arguably, the most comparable alternative to the Ayaneo 3 is the OneXFly F1 Pro (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon), which One-Netbook has been shipping since November. By contrast, Ayaneo does not expect to begin fulfilling Ayaneo 3 pre-orders until April. Past experience suggests that this date is not set in stone either, as is often the case with crowdfunding campaigns. Please see the table below for full pricing details.
