Popular Linux distribution Bazzite has announced an interesting development for the Legion Go S, which Lenovo announced earlier this month alongside a dedicated Steam OS variant. While pre-orders opened shortly afterwards, this was only true for its Windows version. For some reason, Lenovo is holding back the Steam OS variant until May at the earliest.
Nonetheless, it will soon be possible to install a SteamOS-like environment on the Legion Go S that is now shipping. In a recent post across its social media channels, Bazzite explains that it has now added Legion Go S support for Lenovo's latest gaming handheld, just like the the Legion Go (curr. $649 on Amazon) before it. Better still, support is already available in Bazzite's latest stable release, which has arrived as v41.20250121.
For reference, Bazzite does not wipe an existing Windows installation. Instead, the OS can be installed as a separate partition and supports dual booting back into Windows as equired. Bazzite provides options for rebooting directly into Windows as well, negating the need to return to a device's BIOS altogether.
The Legion Go S is currently available with a choice of two memory variants in most markets, culminating in 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The cheaper 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage variant comes with the same underlying specifications as its pricier counterpart, though. Thus, all Legion Go S models ship with an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go APU, as well as a 55.5 Wh battery and an 8-inch IPS display that combines a 1200p resolution with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Please see Bazzite's website for installation details.
