There are plenty of laptop users, especially students, who have extremely modest performance expectations from their devices. A Chromebook can be a viable alternative for such people, as long as they can manage with the limitations of ChromeOS. Lenovo's recently launched Chromebook Plus 2-in-1 appears to fit the bill rather well for such people, packing commendable processing power for its kind.
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 2-in-1 can be equipped with up to the Intel Core 7 processor, paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory. The base variant ships with 128 GB of eMMC storage, while the higher-tier variants can be equipped with up to a 512 GB SSD. As the name suggests, the device sports a 360º hinge, allowing it to function both as a laptop, and a tablet. The device is MIL-STD-810H certified, along with a spill-resistant backlit keyboard.
At the front, a 14-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 sits underneath a 5 MP front camera with a built-in privacy shutter. Considering the laptop's 2-in-1 functionality, it is no surprise that the display is touch-enabled, with support for the Lenovo USI Pen 2 (currently $40 on Amazon). At just under 3.3 lbs, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 2-in-1 is easy to carry around, and its 50 Wh battery allows for a claimed 11-hour battery life. The port selection is admirable as well, including dual USB-A, dual USB-C, HDMI, as well as a microSD card reader. Wireless connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.
There is no word on pricing or availability yet, but considering the features on offer, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 2-in-1 is likely to be on the pricier side of the spectrum. However, being a Chromebook, the laptop can safely be expected to be affordable enough.
