MediaTek is likely a familiar name to many consumers, especially those who have owned or considered budget-friendly smartphones with its Helio and Dimensity series chipsets. The company recently announced the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra, a processor designed for Chromebooks, which are typically more affordable than laptops running Windows.
The ARM-based processor boasts a total of eight cores, comprising one Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4 and four Cortex-A720 cores. It is compatible with LPDDR5X memory and features 12 MB of L3 cache and an Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU, which supports ray tracing. In Geekbench 6, the Kompanio Ultra reportedly achieved single-core and multi-core scores of 2,600 and 8,000, respectively.
Neural processing units (NPUs) have essentially become a standard feature on modern SoCs, and the Kompanio Ultra (910) is no exception. Delivering 50 TOPS of AI performance, it slightly outperforms the Intel Core Ultra 5 236V in this department. Besides having enough power to run AI applications, the Kompanio Ultra supports up to three 4K displays, allowing it to drive two external monitors alongside the laptop’s screen – all at this impressive resolution. For wireless connectivity, the processor offers Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi 7 with speeds of up to 7.3 Gbit/s. MediaTek has yet to provide detailed information about devices featuring this SoC.
