Acer mostly releases Chromebooks with a traditional laptop design, but this year, it has announced a tablet for the education market. The Acer Chromebook Tab 311 has a MediaTek chip, military-grade durability, and optional LTE.

Acer was the first manufacturer to launch a ChromeOS tablet with the 2018 Acer Chromebook Tab 10. However, while it still churns out new Chromebooks every year, they're mainly traditional laptops and not tablets, although some have a convertible design. Now, it has announced a new ChromeOS tablet — the Acer Chromebook Tab 311 — which is designed for classroom use.

The Acer Chromebook Tab 311 has a 10.95'' display with a 1920 × resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, and some pretty thick bezels. The tablet is powered by MediaTek's Kompanio 520 processor which was announced in 2022 but didn't appear in Chromebooks until 2023. The tablet will be available with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB of storage. It also has a MicroSD card slot so users can add up to an additional 2TB of storage.

Acer has added a 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP rear camera with autofocus. The Acer Chromebook Tab 311 has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and optional LTE. As expected, it has support for a USI 2.0 stylus but the stylus is optional. However, a keyboard case is included in the box so it can be used like a laptop. There's also an optional folio case with a kickstand that can be set to different angles.

Acer says the Chromebook Tab 311 meets the MIL-STD 810H military-grade durability standard but doesn't say if it has an IP rating. There's an 8,000mAh battery inside the device which Acer says should provide up to 10 hours of use. It charges via a USB-C port. There is also an audio jack.

The Acer Chromebook Tab 311 will be available next quarter in North America for $329, in Europe for €329, and in Australia for AUD 349. Acer's Chromebook Tab 311 will be facing stiff competition from Lenovo which is the household name when it comes to ChromeOS tablets with its Chromebook Duet series.

As at the time of writing, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 which has a more powerful MediaTek Kompanio 838 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage is available on Amazon for $399. That price includes a keyboard case and the Lenovo Digital Pen 2 USI 2.0 stylus.
