Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 review: Mobile energy-saving champion
Small battery long runtime.
Chromebooks don't need a lot of power to meet the demands of everyday use reliably. A battery with 29 Wh is enough for the economical device to run for 12 hours. However, the robust Chromebook Duet 11 also shows surprising strengths in other areas.Marc Herter, 👁 Marc Herter, ✓ Anton Avdyushkin (translated by DeepL / Ninh Duy) Published 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 ...
Verdict
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 is a convertible that scores with its flexibility and mobility. The detachable display, optional pen support, and long battery life make it an ideal companion on the go. The MediaTek Kompanio 838 processor ensures smooth everyday performance, which is perfectly adequate for typical Chromebook applications.
The 11-inch (approx. 28 cm) display in 16:10 format offers good sRGB color space coverage but shows a clear blue cast and only moderate color reproduction. The detachable keyboard is suitable for short texts and notes, but less comfortable for longer writing tasks. However, it is still significantly better than an on-screen keyboard.
Thanks to the passive cooling, the Chromebook Duet 11 works absolutely silently and remains pleasantly cool even under load. With a battery life of ten to twelve hours, you can easily get through the day.
All in all, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 is a solid convertible that impresses primarily with its mobility, long battery life, and affordable price. It is ideal for anyone who is looking for a flexible, and mobile device for everyday use and work and can do without maximum performance.

The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 is a convertible that combines the flexibility of a tablet with the productivity of a laptop. With its detachable screen and optional pen support, it is aimed at anyone looking for a mobile and versatile device for everyday use and work. Whether for surfing, streaming, or simple office tasks - the Chromebook Duet 11 promises a smooth user experience thanks to Chrome OS and the MediaTek Kompanio 838 processor. However, it cannot quite keep this promise.
Specifications
Case & equipment
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 comes in a trendy detachable design and consists of three components: the tablet itself, a detachable keyboard, and a back cover with an integrated stand. With a weight of around 500 grams and a thickness of approximately 7 millimeters, the tablet is pleasantly light and handy. The magnetically attached keyboard adds another 290 grams and 7 millimeters of thickness. A special highlight is the removable back cover in a gray leather look, which not only gives the Chromebook Duet 11 a stylish look but also ensures a secure stand with its integrated kickstand. This also adds another 150 grams and contributes 3 mm to the thickness of the overall package.
The tablet casing itself is angular and simple. Cool, gray aluminum meets a reflective glass touchscreen, framed by a black plastic frame. The display edge is comparatively wide at around 9 millimeters, which puts a slight damper on the modern design. With the stand, the tablet stands securely and can be used in all kinds of positions. However, the tablet and keyboard unit feel a little wobbly. In tests, both can be twisted quite easily. The magnetic connections between the three parts are also somewhat weak. The tablet should not be lifted by either the stand or the keyboard. At best, the detachable should be folded up, as the keyboard can also easily fall off if too much momentum is applied.
Webcam
Typical for a tablet, the Lenovo Duet 11 not only has a webcam but also a main camera on the back. The front camera has a maximum resolution of five megapixels, the rear camera even has 8 MP. Both cameras record natively in 4:3 format. In terms of image quality, the cameras are impressive. The images are sharp, high-contrast, and offer relatively good color reproduction.

Sustainability
Unfortunately, no data on Lenovo's carbon footprint could be found for the Chromebook. However, the notebook's packaging is commendable. Lenovo has completely dispensed with plastic here.
As far as maintenance or repair of the Duet 11 is concerned, we have to conclude that it is probably not possible to work on the device without special tools. The screen is glued and there are no screws on the device. However, memory upgrades or similar are hardly necessary for Chromebooks. We are more pleased with Google's update promise for the device until 2034 - a total of nine years!
Input devices
With a detachable like the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11, the main focus is naturally on the touchscreen. It responds promptly to inputs from up to ten fingers simultaneously and enables smooth and precise operation thanks to its smooth surface.
However, the detachable keyboard is less convincing. Both the keyboard itself and the integrated touchpad seem a little wobbly. The small keys with a short stroke and barely perceptible haptic feedback take some getting used to. The keyboard is sufficient for short texts and notes, but less suitable for longer writing tasks. Unfortunately, our test device did not come with the matching Lenovo USI Pen 2 Magnetic.
Display
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 has an 11-inch display in a modern 16:10 format. With a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, it delivers sharp images and offers enough space for office applications and multimedia content. A plus point is the good sRGB color space coverage of 98.3%, which is above the average of many other Chromebooks.
However, the display has a clear blue cast, which can be tiring for the eyes in the long term. The color reproduction is also only moderate with an average DeltaE2000 value of 4.76. Although the color deviations are hardly noticeable for untrained eyes, the display is less suitable for professional image editing.

Unfortunately, PWM (pulse width modulation) is used at a brightness of less than 30% (around 100 cd/m²), which can lead to headaches or eye flickering for sensitive users. On the positive side, however, the PWM frequency is comparatively high at around 2 kHz, which reduces the strain.
The response times of the display are in the medium range. At around 23 ms for black-to-white changes and 27 ms for gray-to-grey changes, it may not be the best choice for action-packed games and movies, but it is absolutely sufficient for everyday tasks.

The display backlight flickers at 2000 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 cd/m² and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 2000 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. Flickering occurs at relatively low brightness settings, so extended use at this brightness setting or lower can cause eyestrain. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8623 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Performance
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 is equipped with hardware that is tailored to the typical requirements of Chromebook users. The eight-core processor MediaTek Kompanio 838 is supported by 8 GB of DDR4 memory, which ensures smooth multitasking and fast loading times. A 128 GB eMMC memory is available for data storage.
Processor
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 is powered by a MediaTek Kompanio 838. This octa-core processor consists of four powerful Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.2 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. In everyday use, it ensures smooth performance in office applications, web browsing, and streaming.
In our benchmarks, the Kompanio 838 performs significantly better than other ARM processors that are often used in Chromebooks, such as the Snapdragon 7c or the Kompanio 520. Compared to entry-level processors of the x86 architecture, such as the Intel Core i3-N305 however, the Kompanio 838 has to admit defeat.

Mass storage
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 uses 128 GB eMMC memory as mass storage. eMMC memories are slower compared to modern SSD hard disks but offer the advantage of a lower price. The eMMC memory should be sufficient for most Chromebook users, but those who save a lot of files or work with large programs may reach the limits of performance. However, with the two USB-C sockets, which deliver 5 GB/s, fast external storage can be connected.
Graphics card
The graphics performance is provided by the integrated ARM Mali-G57 MP3. It is sufficient for displaying user interfaces and videos but reaches its limits with demanding 3D games.

Emissions & Energy
Noise emissions
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 manages completely without a fan. The MediaTek Kompanio 838 is passively cooled, which results in absolutely silent operation. This means you can concentrate fully on your work or movie enjoyment without being distracted by annoying fan noises.
The Chromebook is also spared from coil whine. During our test, we could not hear any disturbing high-frequency noises.
Overall, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 presents itself as a pleasantly quiet device, where only the speakers can be heard when desired.
Temperature
With a maximum power consumption of 11 watts, the Duet 11 hardly heats up during operation. Both the front and the back of the tablet reach a maximum of 39 °C in our tests. This means that the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 remains comfortable even under load. It could only get a little warmer in direct sunlight.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 38.3 °C / 101 F, compared to the average of 35.3 °C / 96 F, ranging from 19.6 to 60 °C for the class Convertible.

Speaker
The speakers of the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 deliver an overall pleasant sound, which is primarily characterized by its linear reproduction in the mid and high-frequency range. However, you have to do without deep bass, as all frequencies below 160 Hz are cut off. So if you like listening to music with powerful bass, you should use external speakers or headphones. In addition to Bluetooth for wireless connection, a classic 3.5 mm jack connection is also available.

Battery life
The MediaTek Kompanio 838 processor in Lenovo's Chromebook Duet 11 is very energy efficient. Although the battery in the Duet with 29 Wh does not seem very generous at first glance, our measurements of the energy consumption show that the Chromebook uses its resources very sparingly.
In the practical WLAN web surfing test, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 achieved a battery life of around 12 hours. This will easily get you through a working day or a long flight.
Another plus point in terms of energy: The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 can be powered with a simple USB charger with 5V and 2A.
