Energizer is similar to Nokia and Blackberry in certain ways: All of them are well-known brands currently licensed to various companies. This has led to some rather odd situations. For example, after seeing a press release issued by Avenir Telecom on 6 January 2025 regarding the first Energizer EnergyBooks, we approached Energizer’s booth at CES 2025 to ask about the new laptops. However, there were no laptops being showcased at the booth, and the company’s representatives also didn’t seem to have any idea what we were talking about.
This is because the brand has been licensed to several companies. Avenir Telecom, for instance, holds the exclusive licence to promote their smartphones using the brand’s image of long-lasting power. The French company is apparently also planning to offer laptops under the Energizer EnergyBooks name. The press release contained several pictures (see above and below) but very little information about specs. Scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2025, the lineup is called EnergyBook Classic and features 15- and 17-inch models equipped with either 128 GB or 256 GB of storage – with prices starting at an mind-blowingly low $199.
Ultra-affordable laptops designed for everyone
Notebookcheck already reached out to Avenir Telecom requesting more specs-related information on 6 January, but has yet to receive any response. We are also sceptical about whether this $199 price tag can actually be fulfilled, especially given that the French company is promising to deliver reliable laptops with a sturdy chassis, long-term support and eco-friendly materials. The EnergyBooks are seemingly aimed at not only users with basic needs, but also students and professionals. That said, you probably shouldn’t expect too much in terms of performance.
Of course, we’ll keep you updated as soon as we receive more information on the laptops. Strangely enough, there still doesn’t seem to be any new details online about Energizer’s foray into the laptop market two weeks after the press release, not even on Avenir Telecom’s website. But at least a still-barren “Computer” category has already appeared on the website.
