Microsoft has now refreshed the Surface Laptop with new processors, three months after details of the new release emerged online. As expected, these new processors all stem from Intel's Lunar Lake family, which are as follows across Microsoft's latest 13.8-inch and 15-inch laptops:
- Core Ultra 5 236V, 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, Arc Graphics 130V
- Core Ultra 5 238V, 32 GB LPDDR5X RAM, Arc Graphics 130V
- Core Ultra 7 266V, 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, Arc Graphics 140V
- Core Ultra 7 268V, 32 GB LPDDR5X RAM, Arc Graphics 140V
Allegedly, the Surface Laptop 7th Intel series will last up to 22 hours when playing locally stored video and 14 hours when browsing the web. Although Microsoft has not yet shared battery capacities for either model, a similarly equipped Zenbook S14 nearly achieved these runtimes during our tests using a 72 Wh battery.
By contrast, the Surface Laptop 7 13 with a Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100) (curr. $1,299 on Amazon) yielded slightly worse battery life in the same tests, albeit with a 25% smaller battery. In other words, while Microsoft's new Surface Laptops will likely offer excellent battery life, it is unlikely to match official figures.
Regardless, Microsoft's latest laptops also contain a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports and will be available with 5G modems later this year. On top of that, both 13.8-inch and 15-inch variants adopt the design changes that Microsoft showcased last year with its ARM-based releases. The Surface Laptop 7th Intel starts today at $1,499.99 and will begin shipping on February 18.
