Microsoft has not tended to refresh its Surface line-up all that often in recent years, particularly following the demise of its ill-fated Surface Duo and Surface Neo lines. However, it decided to introduce four distinct Surface products this year by way of the Surface Laptop 6 for Business, Surface Laptop 7, Surface Pro 10 for Business and Surface Pro 11 (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon).
While there have been 'for Business' variants in the past, this generation represents the first time that they have featured different processor architectures and designs from their consumer counterparts. Based on new information, it seems that Microsoft may be returning to an annual hardware refresh for its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop series, at least in their 'for Business' guises.
For reference, less than a week has passed since images of what could be the Surface Laptop 8 for Business appeared online. According to a recent post on Chiphell, Microsoft intends to sell the device with this name, which it is developing under the codename '831_WID'. Reportedly, a Surface Pro equivalent is also in development as '830_QUN', which should debut under the moniker 'Surface Pro 12 for Business'.
Moreover, both machines are expected to land with Core Ultra 5 226V, Core Ultra 7 266V and Core Ultra 7 268V processors. In other words, the Surface Laptop 8 for Business and Surface Pro 12 for Business will be sold in 16 GB and 32 GB of RAM variants. Furthermore, both devices should reflect the design changes that Microsoft introduced earlier this year with their ARM-based consumer variants.
Incidentally, this tallies with an earlier report that surfaced on Reddit late last month. While that account has now been deleted, it was said that they were a Microsoft partner who was reliable 'over the years'. In short, do not be surprised if Microsoft confirms details for a new Copilot+ or business focused event in around March or April 2025.
