Well over a year has passed since Minisforum first teased the V3. With that being said, the 2-in-1 has only been available to purchase for about eight months with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U APU, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD (curr. $949 on Amazon).
Nonetheless, the device is now on its second refresh after Minisforum introduced a lesser 16 GB of RAM variant in the spring. For reference, cutting the available RAM in half will impact iGPU performance. Now, the company has started selling an even more neutered version at a more attractive price point.
For context, the V3 SE has arrived globally just over a month after its debut in China. In short, the V3 SE has many of the same components as the V3, save for a weaker AMD Ryzen APU and display. Thus, it retains a 50.82 Wh battery that supports 65 W charging, as well as an M.2 2280 SSD and LPDDR5 RAM clocked at 6,400 MT/s.
However, Minisforum has replaced the Ryzen 7 8840U with the Ryzen 7 7735U for a 15% performance cut. By contrast, the Radeon 680M inside the latter falls about 10% short of the Radeon 780M inside the Ryzen 7 8840U.
Moreover, the V3 SE features a 1200p, 60 Hz and 320-nit display, compared to the 1600p, 165 Hz and 500 nit panel found in the V3. With that being said, the V3 retains its sibling's 14-inch and 16:10 form factor. Currently, the V3 SE is available from Minisforum directly for $799 with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD. The 2-in-1 should will be making its way to Amazon soon for the same amount, though.
