Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition: New pen convertible with Lunar Lake more efficient than ever before
At IFA 2024, Lenovo surprisingly announced the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13. Normally, Lenovo saves the expensive enterprise laptops of the ThinkPad X1 series for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that takes place every January in Las Vegas. Aside from the X1 Carbon, Lenovo also updates the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 (formerly known as ThinkPad X1 Yoga) every year. The X1 2-in-1 is based on the same hardware as the X1 Carbon, but with the tablet function and digitizer pen. This time, the X1 Carbon was unveiled without its convertible counterpart - maybe the X1 2-in-1 would not continue?
Those fears can be put to rest. At the yearly Lenovo Techworld presentation, the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition was introduced.
The new 2-in-1 follows the example of its more popular clamshell brother. The most important update is the new processor, as Lenovo adopts Lunar Lake with this ThinkPad laptop. The new Intel Core Ultra 200V platform promises a much improved battery life compared with the predecessor ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 (available for $1,839 over at Amazon.com). In our comprehensive review, the older model with Meteor Lake just achieved north of eight hours of battery life. Also, the cooling fan was quite active. Both are areas where huge improvements are to be expected with Intel Lunar Lake.
Apart from the new CPUs, Lenovo simply adopts the design of the X1 2-in-1 Gen 9. The device can be converted into a big 14-inch tablet and it has a pen and touchscreen - though that digitizer pen can not be stored in the chassis anymore. Instead it is mounted magnetically to the slender aluminum chassis. Different from most ThinkPad laptops, the X1 2-in-1 is not available in black, as Lenovo will only offer it in a silverish grey. As for the screens, customers get a choice between a 2.8K OLED screen or a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) IPS panel. All screens are supposed to reach a brightness level of 500 cd/m².
Since Lenovo is also releasing the X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 as an "Aura Edition", the same Aura Edition software features that Lenovo already announced with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13 also apply here.
