Lenovo has introduced a new video conferencing system based on Intel Meteor Lake processors. Available later this year, the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 also has DDR5 RAM and plenty of ports.

Lenovo has announced the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2, which looks like a rather large mini-PC on the face of things. However, the company claims that the device is an early example of an 'AI optimised compute device' designed to power video conferencing suites. To that end, the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 runs Windows 11 IoT rather than Windows 11 Pro.

Moreover, Lenovo's marketing material frequently refers to the device's AI capabilities thanks to its dedicated NPU. With that being said, the latter is only true because of Intel Meteor Lake processors in the form of the Core Ultra 5 135H and Core Ultra 7 165H with Intel vPro. For reference, the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 also comes with DDR5-5600 RAM and PCIe TLC storage within a 185 x 220 x 38 mm and 860 g fanless housing.

Furthermore, Lenovo has included seven USB ports, three HDMI ports and a cable management solution. On top of that, all ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 systems will come pre-installed with ThinkSmart Manager software and Lenovo ThinkShield. The ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 will be available later this year for $2,900 in the US with an IP controller or ThinkSmart controller 'to suit a variety of room setups'.
