Pre-orders open now: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition will ship in November
Lenovo introduced the newest version of its ThinkPad X1 Carbon earlier than usual at IFA. Now, the predecessor of the 2024 model X1 Carbon G12 (available from Amazon) is orderable. Via Lenovo's own shop, two variants of the new business flaggship are available. Shipping is estimated to take exactly one month.
However, customers have to pay a lot to get the priviledge to be early adopters. The less expensive variant with 1 TB SSD starts at $2,519. The upgrade to 2 TB costs $200, so $2,719 in total. Otherwise, both models are identical: They are powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, which has 32 GB RAM on-package. The screen is a 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800) OLED panel with 400 cd/m² brightness and 120 Hz refresh rate. Both models include the traditional mechanical touchpad instead of the haptic one made by Sensel.
The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13 Aura Edition is the flagship model of Lenovo's office laptop lineup for big enterprise customers and meant for managers and CEOs. With less than one kg of weight, it is extremely lightweight. It is the first ThinkPad laptop to use the new, much more efficient Intel Lunar Lake chips. It being released less than a year after the X1 Carbon Gen 12 is unusual. However, this is not yet the full release. Many configuration options will only follow in early 2025, like 5G-LTE, less expensive Ultra 5 and 16 GB RAM options and the already mentioned haptic Sensel touchpad.
We were able to take a look at the X1 Carbon at IFA 2024 for our hands-on.
