Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 5: The only modern 14-inch ThinkPad with three USB-A ports
For laptop ports, in the last ten years, the trend only had one direction: Fewer ports. With the appearance of USB-C in the year 2015, the USB-A ports that were normal till then were suddenly "legacy" without a future, except for backwards compatibility. When Apple dropped everything for USB-C around 2016, it seemed like the days of the rectangular USB ports were over. From then on, users were supposed to use dongles for old accessories.
This "USB-C only" policy did not succeed thus far with laptops. There are some models for consumers without USB-A now, but there are even more that still carry the old standard.
However, what is rarer are laptops with more than two USB-A ports. We were surprised when we recently reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 5: This business laptop has three USB-A port, despite it being a new design. More than that, compared with the predecessor, this is one additional USB-A, as the L14 Gen 4 only had two legacy USB ports.
Despite this being one of the more affordable models of the ThinkPad lineup, the L14 Gen 5 has more USB-A ports than the more expensive T14 Gen 5 or the workstation model P14s Gen 5. The L14 should be a very interesting product for users who have many older USB devices that they have to connect at the same time.
