GPD Duo released as new innovative convertible laptop with powerful AMD Zen 5 APU and dual OLED displays
GPD has now started selling the Duo, its first full laptop release in a while. As expected, the company has brought the device to Indiegogo first, where it has already received over $150k from backers. In summary, the GPD Duo contains the following hardware:
- Dual AMOLED displays, 2,880 x 1,800 resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate, 500 nits peak brightness, 16:10 aspect ratio, 100% Aobe RGB/DCI-P3 colour space coverage
- Soldered LPDDR5x 6400/7500 MTs/ RAM
- 2x M.2 2280 (PCIe 4.0 x4) slots
- 80 Wh battery
Moreover, all units feature one USB 4 (40 Gbps) port, OCuLink, HDMI 2.1, an SD card slot and a few other USB Type-A ports. At launch, GPD offers the Duo with AMD's Ryzen 7 8840U and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APUs. For reference, the latter leads the former in our benchmarks by approximately 1.38x. As it stands, the Duo is available at the following prices:
- AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD - $1,270 early bird ($1,425 MSRP)
- AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD - $1,380 early bird ($1,516 MSRP)
- AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD - $1,650 early bird ($1,790 MSRP)
- AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD - $1,860 early bird ($1,971 MSRP)
Please note that the Duo's crowdfunding campaign will last until November 22, before which GPD will not send out any units to consumers. Thus, its estimated shipping window of November 2024 may mean the final week of that month at the earliest. Unfortunately, GPD has not provided any more information in this regard.
