Huawei is thought to mark the Spring Festival of 2025 by challenging the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 well in advance with its own premium clamshell.
The device is thought to succeed the Pocket 2, a foldable smartphone that, unlike contemporaries such as the Motorola Razr+ 2024 and Xiaomi Mix Flip, has 2 large circles on its front panel: one for its rear cameras and one for its secondary screen.
Its ability to compete with the Flip6 (currently available for $899.95 on Amazon) in review was compromized in a number of ways, Huawei's unwillingness to so much as disclose its SoC included (it may or may not have been the Kirin 9000S).
The Pocket 2 was also never the lightest or thinnest 2024 clamshell foldable smartphone around. Nevertheless, it debuted with an IPX8 rating, dual LTPO OLED displays and 4 rear cameras that included a telephoto lens - even if the latter was not of the periscope variety.
Whether the Pocket 3 can improve on these features or not remains to be seen at this point. It is tipped to launch alongside other potentially compelling smartphones such as the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Oppo Find X8 Ultra, Realme Neo 7 SE, maybe the Honor GT Pro and OnePlus Open 2 in February 2025.
